Made in China: Chinese Decorative Arts 1650-1900
Presented by Decorative Arts Center of Ohio
Today's China, with her booming economy and expanding contemporary art market, still evokes a sense of distance, romance and mystery. For 4000 years, a large percentage of her huge population has shown an inherent joy in producing art. Her early rulers were great patrons of the arts - some emperors were artists themselves. This exhibition focuses on Chinese decorative arts created between 1650 and 1900 and includes those made for the local Chinese market and other collected in Europe and America. Discover why Chinese art has had such wide appeal: from middle-class Chinese in the Qing dynasty to 18th century European nobility to Chinese scholars and officials and to Americans today.
