The Contemporary Music Festival
Presented by The School of Music at The Ohio State University
Pulitzer Prize winning composer Joseph Schwantner is one of the most prominent American composers today. Known for his dramatic, unique style and as a gifted orchestral colorist he is one of the most widely performed composers of our time. He has served on the faculties of The Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, and the Yale School of Music, simultaneously establishing himself as a sought after composition instructor. CMF Director Russel Mikkelson describes Schwantner's music as "music that creates an inviting and colorful ambiance. Schwantner draws the listener into his world of stunningly attractive sounds and rhythms, refusing to let the listener go, even after the final sounds have evaporated."
This year's CMF concerts will feature performances by Ohio State faculty soloists and chamber ensembles, Ohio State student ensembles, and the return of guest artist, soprano Lucy Shelton. Visit music.osu.edu for program details.
