"Rare Baseball Films: The Newsreels" Introduced by Film/Video Director David Filipi
Presented by Wexner Center for the Arts
Rare Baseball Films return for the ninth time to christen the beginning of a new baseball season! This year's program draws on the Hearst Metrotone News Collection at the UCLA Film & Television Archive.
Before television became a fixture in people's homes, theatrical newsreels were one of the few ways for fans to actually see players from around the country in action. The program includes Stan Musial's 3000th hit (at Wrigley Field), a Hollywood charity game with Buster Keaton and Jack Benny, Babe Ruth's first day with the Boston Braves, Sandy Koufax's retirement press conference, Jackie Robinson relaxing at home with his family, and much more!
