Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory
The Ohio State University’s Ohio Sea Grant College Program is part of NOAA Sea Grant, a network of 30 Sea Grant Programs dedicated to the protection and sustainable use of marine and Great Lakes resources. For information on Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Lab, visit ohioseagrant.osu.edu.
Stone Laboratory, the nation’s oldest freshwater biological field station and Ohio State's island campus on Lake Erie, was the base for the research that saved Lake Erie in the 1970s. Scientists working from the lab have been able to unlock the mystery of the Dead Zone―the bottom area with little or no oxygen that occurs in the summer months―and determine the cause of harmful algal blooms that affect fish and people alike.
Our events raise funds for and promote education about Lake Erie research, education, and outreach programs.
